Birthday Surprise

Kyouka’s face is worth it, Atsushi thinks when her eyes widen in wonder and she makes that small sound of breathing in and in and in like it’s the only way she can realize what someone else has done for her, by swallowing it down and making it a part of herself.

He blushes and pushes the plate of crepes toward her with the fresh strawberries and cream he’d bought for her.

“I heard it was your birthday and, well, happy birthday, Kyouka.”

She takes the plate he all but shoves into her hands. She blinks. She smiles. “Thank you.”
